House officials decry lack of military support in budget By Leo Shane III, Stars and Stripes Mideast edition, Friday, July 10, 2009
WASHINGTON — House lawmakers on Thursday blasted a White House decision not to provide money next fiscal year for upgrades to combat-worn equipment, and promised a fight to put billions back into the defense budget.
The House version of the fiscal 2010 defense authorization bill already contains about $20 billion for the repair of equipment worn down by desert conditions and purchase of new gear to replace items destroyed in combat. About $11 billion of the total is for the Army alone.
But that’s down more than $2 billion from previous years’ requests, and doesn’t include any funds for things like vehicle armor improvements, new communications equipment or other upgrades. Officials from the Office of Management and Budget said money for those improvements will come from the Army’s base budget, and not from the extra overseas contingency funds meant to pay for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Army Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Peter Chiarelli said Tuesday that the directive outlining the funding change effectively cuts any such recapitalization work next year.
"For the most part, adding on upgrades to equipment won’t be allowed in FY2010," he said. "I think it makes a lot of sense to upgrade when we can. But the new rules are that we can’t do that."
In a statement OMB officials said the move "is part of a long-overdue attempt to rationalize how the Administration requests funding for war, versus non-war programs, forces and activities."
But news of the policy upset lawmakers, who said they were unaware of any limits on equipment reset for next year and were concerned about shortchanging the services.
"If we’re going to do this on the basis of ... a budget number, as opposed to our obligation to provide what [the services] need, then I have a real dilemma here," said Rep. Neil Abercrombie, D-Hawaii. "I can’t say we’re giving a number that really provides for [the military’s] necessity."
Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, R-Md., said OMB may have overstepped its boundaries in the directive by limiting how the reset fund can be spent, and said he believes the Army and Marine Corps should receive the money they need for critical readiness upgrades next year.
OMB officials did not provide comment by deadline, but service officials confirmed the overseas contingency operations directive was provided to the Pentagon as part of the budget process earlier this year.
Congress has authorized nearly $70 billion for reset and upgrades of equipment since 2006, money that doesn’t include funds to fast-track production of combat necessities like Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles.
Army and Marine Corps officials have said throughout that shortfalls in equipment and repair funding would not endanger troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, since they’re constantly supplied with the best-conditioned vehicles and gear available.
But units training in the States, or those in noncombat units based overseas, have been stuck with older equipment and faced shortfalls in getting up-to-date training equipment.
Chiarelli said he’s confident the $11 billion the Army requested for fiscal 2010 — about $8 billion for logistics costs and depot maintenance, and $3 billion for procurement and repair — is enough to keep missions and training operating smoothly.
"We are able with the funds available to reset equipment," he said. "We understand the tremendous fiscal crisis our country has gone through. As long as we can reset our equipment, we understand that because of fiscal requirements it may be in the best interest of our country as a whole to cut back on recapitalization."
The Marine Corps is expected to receive about $2 billion in reset funds, and the National Guard and Reserve another $7 billion.

How Iran’s political crisis might only strengthen the Islamic Republic -- and why Rafsanjani (seen on left) could be the election’s real winner.

After weeks of silence, Iran's mainstream clerics, perhaps the most powerful constituency inside Iran, have spoken out. In a bold statement Saturday, the Association of Researchers and Teachers of Qom called President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's reelection illegitimate. The Guardian Council that oversaw the election, the association concluded, no longer had the "right to judge in this case as some of its members have lost their impartial image in the eyes of the public."
As stunning as it might seem to hear clerics openly condemn an election that the country's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has sanctified, inside Iran it is less unexpected. Most clerics in the holy Shiite city of Qom have never supported the extremist religious and political ideas of Khamenei and the hard-liners within his inner circle. The clerics in this association -- and many other high-ranking ayatollahs -- had already individually sided with the opposition now led by Mir Hossein Mousavi. They have done so not to bolster the so-called "green revolution" of the streets, but to save the Islamic republic from extinction.
Despite what you hear about the supposed dawn of a new democratic era in Iran, what is likely to develop in the near future is a different kind of theocracy. Whatever "cracks" in the system now on public display will not weaken the Islamic Republic of Iran. It's possible the clerics might even strengthen it over the long term by resolving a key contradiction: how Islamic principles should be applied in a state that aspires to also function as a republic.
Clearly, the Iran of Ahmadinejad, Khamenei, and other like-minded figures, such as Ayatollahs Mohammad Taqi Mesbah Yazdi and Ahmad Jannati, has failed. Now, the clerical establishment in Qom, aligned with Mousavi and millions of Iranians in the opposition movement, plans to redefine what it means to be an Islamic republic. As Mousavi, himself a non-cleric, said in a statement released July 1, "Islam is a liberating religion -- liberating from superstitions and fabrications." The opposition is fighting to extinguish the Islam of constraints, repression, and violence created by Khamenei and his allies, not to overthrow the established order altogether.
Many of the influential clerics at odds with Khamenei were devoted followers of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who led the 1979 Islamic Revolution. One such ayatollah is Seyed Jalaleddin Taheri, who has also declared the election invalid. Referring to Khamenei's endorsement of Ahmadinejad, Taheri asked pointedly in early July: "Did the imam [Khomeini] believe that those who are supposed to be impartial should formally and officially support a particular candidate?" He went on: "Why does the protection of law only apply to you and your friends, and why do religion, law, and the imam only become dear when you can benefit from them. ... Where does your totalitarianism end?" In other words, is Iran a republic accountable to the people, or an Islamic state beholden to one particular interpretation of the faith?
As this religious war continues to unfold, there will no doubt be casualties and beneficiaries. At this moment, it appears Mousavi might be the sacrificial lamb; many high-ranking hard-liners are calling for his trial and imprisonment. The editor of the Kayhan newspaper, Hossein Shariatmadari, who is a mouthpiece for Khamenei, argued recently that Mousavi and former President Mohammad Khatami should be tried for "terrible crimes." He might get his way. With hundreds of reformist foot soldiers already in prison, it appears the hard-liners are still deciding the fate of the reform movement's key leaders.
The likely beneficiary of this religious struggle is Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani. If the statement from the association in Qom is a clue, then the former president, who has been lobbying behind the scenes in Qom for weeks, has used his time well. A skilled political operative once known as "the Shark," and "the Eunuch" he has been doing what he does best: leaving no fingerprints. He appears one day to be retreating back into the fold of the hard-line regime and on another siding with the opposition. At this point, it is unclear where he stands, which is precisely the place he prefers to be, as long as other heavyweights, such as the members of the Qom clerical association, do his bidding for him.
When the dust settles, Iran could turn out to be a gentler Islamic republic. With leading reformers in jail and the street tamed, the voices for radical change are falling silent. Khamenei and Ahmadinejad, meanwhile, could be dwarfed by Rafsanjani and the mainstream clerical establishment, which may not be particularly fond of Rafsanjani, but think he is a better alternative for preserving the Islamic system. Meanwhile, to ensure that system remains intact, Rafsanjani might well turn a blind eye to the trial and imprisonment of the reformers he so fiercely defended and claimed as his allies over the last several months. It wouldn't be the first time he has sold them out.

An amendment to a bill swiftly moving through the US Congress will allow the Obama Administration's Attorney General to classify Americans as domestic terrorists if they are pro-life, pro-gun and anti-big government. Impeached Florida judge -- now a Democrat Party member of the House of Representatives -- Rep. Alcee Hastings introduced what some claim is a disturbing piece of legislation. Hasting's amendment calls for the Attorney General to have discretion over who is called a terrorist and what groups will be treated as terrorist groups.
"This is arguably one of the worst pieces of legislation to come down the pike in a long, long time. In essence Attorney General Eric Holder -- a Bill Clinton retread -- will have the discretion to label Americans terrorists. Hastings is a dangerous man and should be forced to resign from congress. He's also proposed the creation of "emergency camps" that are nothing more than prisons," warns political strategist Mike Baker.
"This amendment is part and parcel of the trend in this country to suppress dissent by patriots by calling them domestic terrorists," he added.
In an unclassified report entitled "Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment," Secretary for Homeland Security Janet Napolitano and her agency included the following description of "extremists:"
"Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration."
Last Thursday, Congressman Trent (not Barney) Franks (R-AZ) made the following remarks on the House Floor regarding Congressman Alcee Hastings’ (D-FL) amendment to the National Defense Authorization bill:
"The Hastings Amendment to the National Defense Authorization bill (which now is being considered en bloc) prohibits the recruitment, enlistment, or retention of persons with known affiliations to "groups determined by the Attorney General to be of a violent, extremist nature."
"Members on both sides of the aisle support the purpose of this amendment because we recognize that there are legitimate concerns about the enlistment of persons who may seek to use their military training to cause harm to innocents, but we should take pause to consider the breadth of this amendment carefully. I just want to express concern about the language of this amendment, and my concerns are shared by many in this House," said Rep. Franks.
"While the amendment seeks to keep gang members and members of violent groups out of the military, the amendment by its language is much more broad. Specifically, it confers upon the Attorney General the ability to categorize groups as hate groups, and this sounds an alarm for many of us because of the recent shocking and offensive report released by the Department of Homeland Security which labeled, arguably, a majority of Americans as "extremists," warned Franks.
"I take extreme offense that the federal government -- through a report issued under the authority of a Cabinet-level official -- would dare to categorize people who are "dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition or abortion or immigration" as "right-wing extremists" and it begs the question of whether the Attorney General, under Mr. Hastings' Amendment, can look to the Napolitano report to decide who is an extremist, or can make the same categorization of the majority of Americans as extremists who may then be kept from joining the military, or who may be discharged," said Rep. Franks.
"I want to state unequivocally that I believe that it is not the intent of this Congress to label pro-lifers, federalism proponents, and pro-immigration enforcement groups and their affiliates as extremists under the bill. My colleagues on the other side of the aisle should make a strong effort to assuage these concerns and make our intentions clear. If the intent of this amendment is to go after citizens because of their political views and moral convictions, then the amendment is unconstitutional. I hope that the sponsor of the Amendment will make clear tonight that this is not the intent," he added.
Rep. Alcee Hastings also introduced what many say is another disturbing piece of legislation. That new bill calls for the Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano to build at least six facilities that can be designated as "emergency centers. Hastings rationale for such facilities is to gather and "house" civilians on what are basically detention centers guarded by armed soldiers or paramilitary troops.
The House bill (HR 645) -- National Emergency Centers Establishment Act -- is not even on the radar of members of the elite media. According to critics of the plan, if passed the government will create camps or centers that by their nature restrict the activities of US citizens herded into them.
In fact, one provision -- Section 2 (b) (4) -- states: "[To] meet other appropriate needs, as determined by the Secretary of Homeland Security."
One critic, political strategist Mike Baker claims the idea of such detention center smacks of the type of concentration camps for political dissidents, such as occurred in Nazi Germany, Americans find repugnant.
"Why aren't the news media covering this story? Could it be because they fear being the first occupants of these so-called emergency installations? Where is the outrage by our nation's Fourth Estate?" asks Baker.
Hastings bill is suspected of attempting to help expand the President Obama's military and law enforcement powers. While Hastings pushes this bill, even Republican congressmen are hesitant to remind one another and the nation that this Florida congressman was impeached while he sat on Florida's federal court bench.
Appointed by President Jimmy Carter in 1979, he became the first African-American federal judge in the state of Florida, and served in that position for ten years. He’s still called “Judge” by some of his colleagues, but one would think he’d rather forget his days on the federal bench.
In 1989, Judge Hastings was impeached by the US House of Representatives for bribery and perjury. The Democratic-controlled Senate convicted Hastings of accepting a $150,000 bribe in 1981 in exchange for a lenient sentence and of perjury in his testimony about the case. Hastings said the charges against him smacked of racism. (Perfect sidekick for the Obama Chicago Gangster team)
Even Rep. John Conyers, who is also black, said he “found no trace of racism during the investigation.” He urged his colleagues to remove Hastings from the bench. He said, “[Hastings] is unfit to serve.”
When the ultra-liberal Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi nominated Hastings for the chairmanship of the House Intelligence Committee, even members of her own political party balked.
"The prospect of Rep. Alcee Hastings becoming the chairman of the House of Representative’s Intelligence Committee was proposed by Congressional Black Caucus, who had been pressuring the new House Speaker Pelosi to appoint blacks to key leadership positions and Hasting benefited from the pressure on the radical left Pelosi," said former Detective Sidney Frances (NYPD-ret.), himself an African-American.
While Hastings did not become chairman of that committee, he is a ranking member of the Homeland Security Subcommittee.

Barack Obama said that he didn’t want to “meddle” in the Iranian crisis, but now it looks like he’s finally taking sides. Unfortunately, it’s the wrong side. Haaretz reports that Obama has attempted to block an expansion of sanctions on the Iranian mullahs among the G-8 nations (via Yid with Lid):
The United States is opposed to enacting a new set of financial sanctions against Iran that are due to be discussed in the G8 summit next week, diplomatic officials in New York reported Friday.
According to officials, sanctions against Iran are expected to top the G8’s agenda. Sources are also predicting a pointed debate between the heads of the industrialized nations over an appropriate response to Iranian authorities’ suppression of reformist demonstrations in Iran led by Mir Hossein Mousavi and other Iranian opposition leaders.
Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi hinted in a newspaper interview earlier in the week that the G8 is due to decide on new financial sanctions against the Islamic Republic. Berlusconi disclosed that he had spoken with the heads of the G8 nations and has discussed such steps with them.
According to the Italian prime minister, “the general leaning [among G8 leaders] is toward sanctions.”
However, diplomatic sources in New York reported that American officials are working behind the scenes to prevent new sanctions from being imposed against Iran.
Which does this to people!But he could not care less about that. In his misbegotten Islamic Jihadists Marxist-Islamist mind, he prefers the Mullahs to the Iranian people. Or any freedom seekers. In the same vein we can expect, perhaps in the future here, the voter fraud of the Mullahs in islamic iran who recounted several ballot boxes in front of TV cameras, after which the election was declared valid and proper. Mousavi and Rafsanjani, faced with the probablity of being brought to justice for the rivers of blood they spilled while in office - both are really bad guys - not real reformists, Mousavi as Prime Minister for Khomeini and Rafsanjani as President of the islamic republic. While their beef with Khamenei and Ahmadi-Nejad led to an intermural strife, neither of them were pleased by the result of their protest against the rigged votes turning into an anti-islamic regime movement, which while bringing real change to Iran would end with any new regime hanging them along with other clerics. Including the tens of thousands uselesly killed when Rafsanjani prolonged the Iran-Iraq war for several years to make more money from his arms deal. Over the 30-years of the Khomeini revolt, he has become one of the richest men in the world. Former beggar Supreme Ruler Khamenei has hidden $2 Billion in the Far East and the $1.2 Billion the British confiscated recently belongs to his son Mojtabah, the son of a penniless beggar - whose fagther now takes 10% of Iran's oil reveneus as his income. And allows $Billions to disappear from the national budget, siphoned off by Ahamdi0Nejad for the most part and go overseas in suitcases full of cash. Much of it destined to Hezbollah, HAMAS, Syria and terrorist leaders in Iraq.
While the Central Bank has indentified teh mising money, none of it has been accounted by the Ahmadi-Nejad administration.
But back to the rigged votes:
The dog and pony show in front of TV cameras to prove the election valid was hoist with its own petard!
To drop their votes in a ballot box, teh voters had to fold the ballot into four for it to fit in the slot. MOst of the recount votes were FLAT without any creases! Clearly preloaded into the ballot boxes.
Closer examination showed that about 70% of the recounted ballots were all written by one person with the same handwriting over an over. Not that it really matters as the chain of custody makes the recount of only a few ballot boxes totally invalid and irrelevant.
And even that does not really matter either as the Khamenei son and Ahmadi-Nejad coup planned and still does to remove the word "republic" from the name they have adopted, change it to Islamic Iran and rule under the Khomeini Velayat Faghih concepts according to Koranic and Sharia laws where voting is a non-existent concept and the will and commands of Allah and character traits of prophet Mohammad run the country. Through the edicts of selected or self-imposed clergy in power.
Communism and Islam have very similar administrative philosophies and control formulas differing only in who rules at the top, the Communist elite bosses or Allah and his clerics.
The birth of the Khamenei son - Ahmadi-Nejad coup originates with Hugo Chavez of Venezuela taking over as Communist dictator, who took control of all power i the country. Originally, through somewhat dubious elections, followed by an even more dubious one and then total power grab.
There is still a huge fly in the Khamenei ointment. He has little or no respect nor standing among the true religious Shia hierarchy and has found himself facing a backlash.

The head Ayatollah in the holy city of Mashhad (Khamenei's home town) his name escapes my late night, tired brain right now but I believe it is Shirazi) has come out in strong opposition to Khamenei.
With a declaration of invalidity of the election from such a powerful cleric like Ayatollah Tehrani, other reputable Ayatollahs will take heart and are likely to follow suit creating a possibly unbridgeable rift among the clerics.
Rafsanjani, in reality a middle level Hojat-ol-Eslam but now a self-appointed ayatollah knows he has too much to lose, including his life, having already spent about $100 million funding opposition to Khamenei and Ahmadi-Nejad has capitulated and declared the election valis and lawful.
In the Khamenei camp, faced with an increasingly untenable position of having to kill even more than the 500 or so already murdered by his son's mercenary hit squads plus some of the riot police and the THOUSANDS wounded and being made to disappear to leave no traces, has decided to snuf out all opposition in one fell swoop.
WAIT FOR IT.
Tehran, a city of some 12 million people, currently with daytime temperatures of at least or over 100F degrees IN THE SHADE and nightime ones not much cooler, generally uses water evaporation air conditioner units to cool homes and apartments.
Expensive electricity runs refrigerators, lighting and televisions, while in better homes also electronics and computers.
Imagine what happens if ALL city WATER and ELECTRICITY gets cut off?
How many of the 12 million will die from heat stroke when the cooler units no longer have water and buildings turn into ovens.
Imagine the ensuing starvation when food in refrigerators goes bad in a matter of a day or two? Apart from disease from the tons of rotting food dumped out, the populace as a whole does NOT HAVE THE MONEY to replace perishable food stocks.
And with WATER gone, cannot even boil tea or prepare rice! Oh! Nor have water to drink. They cannot, with the exception of a wealthy upper city few, afford to buy soft drinks or bottled water to replace the body liquid they sweat out in the ovens they now call home. Nor is there cool shade anywhere in which they can hide or find relief.
SO WHAT?
Khamenei has announced that if the demonstrationd continue he will close down all WATER AND ELECTRICITY to the city of Tehran.
Even it kills millions, he will no longer put up with the opposition to his rule. Deaths will be swift and could number as many as the holocaust Ahmadi-Nejad denies.
Touch and go situation, turning water and electricity back on after only a few days might not cowe the populace into submission but leaving it off would as masses die. But cause an immediate armed revolution by the Revolutionary guards and other government agents who have families and relatives who would also suffer .
BUT the Oba-Hussein regime not only refuses to step away from negotiations with this unimaginably horrifying regime but bans news of Iranian support demonstrations inside the USA from being broadcast by government run Voice of America (VOA) or Radio Farda, including last Sunday's march in Los Angeles, estimated at 50,000 demonstrators and even CNN, which always downplays numbers reported there were 35,000 anti-mullah regime Iranians in the demonstration.
Mainstream media in Germany and other European countries reported on this event BUT the Oba-Hussein-Khomeini radio programs beaming into Iran were blanked out on this in case this would encourage anti-islamic regime fervor inside Iran and spoil the Moslem Oba-Hussein mindset to be nice to the islamic regime. Or to any islamic country, including large loans to Israel's neighbor Jordan. (Asking what in return?)
Our State Department's response on behalf of the Administration to the brutality, genocidal murders and enmity of the islamic republic of iran, has been a wishy-washiy hold back from confirming that Ahmadi-Nejad was in fact legitimately elected as president, pending more information. In recent days, the world has seen simple folk in Iran risking their lives in order to gain freedom. They are standing there unarmed, only equipped with their righteousness, in the face of snipers firing into the masses. The world saw Neda, a gentle-looking woman shot by a sniper during a protest; blood gushed out of her mouth and she bled to death on the street. Is Neda akin to a bothersome fly that can be crushed with one hand gesture? Is her death a domestic Iranian affair?
The whole world saw and understood, with the exception of the American president. At first, his spokespeople said that the US will not be interfering so it is not accused of organizing the uprising. Yet with the passage of time, it turned out that events in Iran are not an outside conspiracy, but rather, a cry of despair from the hearts of Iranians who are fed up with the poverty, suppression, and isolation forced upon them by the fanatic clerics.
What is going through Obama’s mind when he condemns, belatedly and meekly, the violence against civilians whose only sin was their desire to see their democratic vote respected? Why isn’t he coming to the aid of those rebelling in the name of universal values – democracy, liberty, and fairness? After all, thanks to these values he was elected president. Why is he turning his back on the young men and women on Tehran’s streets who would have likely voted for him had they been American citizens?
The mass protests in Iran could have been America’s finest hour; a repayment of a debt the Americans owe Iran ever since President Jimmy Carter abandoned the Shah in 1979 and allowed Khomeini to take over Iran. Moreover, toppling the Ayatollah regime is a supreme US interest: The quickly nuclearizing Iran threatens first and foremost its neighbors – Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, and Persian Gulf emirates. All of them are allies of the US and its leading oil suppliers. An Iranian takeover would curb the source of America’s cheap and readily available oil and paralyze its economy, which as it is faces a deep crisis.
More broadly, the nuclearizing Iran threatens the stability of pro-American regimes in the Middle East, including Turkey and Egypt, whose president pled with Obama to handle the Iranian problem because this issue, rather than Israel, constitutes a real threat to his state and its pro-Western regime.
In the third ring we see European states, which are already in range of Iranian missiles. On the global scale, the Ayatollah-led Iran is a source of financial support, equipment, and training for the Muslim terror groups that hit the US on September 11th, 2001. Iran is also an ally of North Korean, whose nuclear arms threaten Japan and the Far East.
Bush would have acted differently
In recent days, many Iranians risked their lives and created an opportunity to cut off the head of the snake, whose venom feeds Hizbullah, Hamas and al-Qaeda, remove the Ayatollahs, boost pro-American forces, and eliminate from the map of global threats a highly dangerous regime that feeds terror worldwide.
We can assume that America’s previous president would have taken advantage of the opportunity and announced that the forgers of votes lost their legitimacy to rule Iran. Perhaps he would have even advanced US troops in Iraq to the Iranian border and declared that ongoing bloodshed would force him to order soldiers into Iran in order to save its citizens from the violence of the thugs. We can assume that decisive support by the US president would have served as a boost that the Iranian masses are desperate for; a crucial step en route to toppling the Ayatollah regime a moment before it produces a nuclear bomb.
However, the American president is willing to engage in negotiations with Iran’s illegitimate regime. Barack Obama responded to the violence in Tehran by returning the American ambassador to Syria, whose leader Bashar Assad was the first to congratulate Ahmadinejad for his fraudulent “victory.” Obama stammers when he needs to defend democracy and human rights, unless we are dealing with Hamas’ right to openly try to exterminate the State of Israel or the right of Muslim fanatics to produce nuclear Advertisement
bombs with no interruptions.
A few days ago, in a press conference, Obama muttered that he does not wish to be a tool at the hands of another state to promote its interests, and it was clear which state he was referring to. Does Obama believe that readily available oil and the boosting of US supporters in the Middle East is only an Israeli interest? And what’s wrong with supporting Israel, which fears extermination by an Iranian nuclear bomb? With the passage of time, greater doubts emerge in respect to the values that guide Obama and prompt him to blatantly act against US interests. I must admit I have no answer.

Instead of the mass demonstrations, there have been sporadic ones all over Tehran and other cities nationwide, each of only a thousand or two people, sometimes more, keeping the pot boiling, Interesting twist: while the clerics are touting a letter reportedly signed by Mousavi (under unofficial house arrest) that he accepts the vaiidity of the election results, other sources indicate that he has again rejected a recount of 10% of the ballots and wants the whole election annulled. I hope it is not something lost in translation.
Mojtaba is running the country behind the scenes for his father. Like the Saddam Hussein sons, Udei and Koussei, he is the worst of the worst. Make a note of him for genoncide charges via Palestinians and Hezbis!

Iran's increasingly isolated opposition leader effectively ended his role in street protests, saying he'll seek permits for future rallies. A leading cleric demanded in a nationally broadcast sermon Friday that leaders of the unrest be punished harshly and that some are "worthy of execution."
Iran's ruling clergy has widened its clampdown on the opposition and scattered protests have replaced the initial mass rallies.
The official Web site of opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi, his main tool of communicating with his supporters, was hacked Friday, leaving it blank, an aide said.
In Friday's central Muslim sermon at Tehran University, a senior cleric, Ayatollah Ahmed Khatami, (NOT the "reformist" and Mousavi ally Mohammad Khatami) called for harsh retribution for dissent.
"Anybody who fights against the Islamic system or the leader of Islamic society, fight him until complete destruction," he said in the nationally broadcast speech.
The cleric claimed some involved in the unrest had used firearms.(Disinformation to incite hate against the demonstrators and to explain why innocents are being shot in cold blood)
"Anyone who takes up arms to fight with the people, they are worthy of execution," he said. "We ask that the judiciary confront the leaders of the protests, leaders of the violations, and those who are supported by the United States and Israel strongly, and without mercy to provide a lesson for all."
Khatami said those who disturbed the peace and destroyed public property were "at war with God," and said they should be "dealt with without mercy."
He reminded worshippers that Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, rules by God's design and must not be defied.
(Does Oba-Hussein get his messiah attitude from Khamenei or is it the other way round? Both seem cut from the same cloth and YES they are both "Moslems").
The "reformist" Khatami, who disappointed his ardent followers who elected him President in the past and went to the streets for him and he let them all down, suggested that if the bazaaris did not have the guts to go on strike and lose their business permits "forever" as was threatened, the demonstrators should jam up the bazaar with their presence and bring it to a standstill.
Again, reports reaching us say that the anti-regime, yes, anti-regime movement (no longer simply anti-election vote or as followers of Mousavi) are saying "no more Mr. Nice Guy and killing us will be met with retaliation killing of Mullahs.
Easier said than done but as weapons trickle into the students' hands, as explosives reach them, retaliation will take place. Reportedly the bazaar may be one of the main targets. Once the bazaar closes down a major part of the country's trade, import and export, etc., grinds to a halt. Note, possibly with this in mind,Ahmadi-Nejad already changed numerous employees of the Customs department in the southern city of Ahvaz in the oil province of Khuzestan.
A civil war could well erupt and if the Revolutionary Guards split in half with one part rising in sympathy with the demonstrators, it could become very bloody.
The anti-mullah regime movement has "tea-partied" all over the USA and through out Europe. Today, a demonstration outside the islamic republic embassy in Sweden ratcheted up and demonstrators entered the premises and though they were met with knives and machetes, several badly wounded, at the hands of the embassy guards, they raised the traditional Iranian Lion and Sun Persian flag over the building, to fly there for the first time in 30-years.

The video at the end was posted some hours ago and is a recent view of a Tehran demonstration. With that said let me take offense at the talking heads, mostly on CNN, who insist the Iran protesters are NOT against the regime but want a "vote recount"! But then again, even Fox News has little clue who they bring on to give opinion, including Mullah shill Trita Parsi, known for his bias to the islamic regime and long practised disinformation skills that flavor words with Mullah talking points. What vote recount? From already opened ballot boxes? Boxes already compromised in advance by being sealed outside any witnesses from the other candidates, whose representatives were supposed to witness their being empty and not preloaded. Any wonder why Supreme leader Khamenei has asked a 5-day truce and then he will order a recount? The video toward the end of the article has clear chants of slogans, one of which is a clear "death to the islamic republic". Listen for yourselves: "Marg bar..." means "death to". "jomhoori eslami" means "islamic republic" So: "marg bar jomhoori eslami" means "death to the islamic republic" Bye, bye talking heads deflecting the fact that the protesters do not want a regime change. Other chants in the video include: "I will kill the one who kills my brother (protester)" "Tonight it is revolution" "Woe! Wait till we are armed" (as were the pro-Khomeini supporters in 1979 when they broke into armories after the military went neutral). Some of those weapons were buried and even asphalted over for future use and calls are going out to bring them out and give them to the students to defend themselves. One Revolutionary Guard General, Ali Fazli, was arrested for disobeying the regime order to shoot on the populace. He has since been taken to a place unknown and has disappeared. A whole bunch of clerics are also opposing the regime and have issued fatwas (religious commands) to the Revolutionary Guard not to shoot demonstrators or suffer the consequences of going to hell instead of paradise. Whether as a result or independently, about HALF of the Revolutionary Guard Commanders are sympathising with the demonstrators and their troops are turning a blind eye to demonstrators as much as they can. One of these fell to his knees in tears begging the protesters to disperse. " I have a family, a wife and four children. I do NOT want to hit you or hurt but if I do not they will arrest me and execute me. Please, please go home or you will end up killing me for not hurting you." As you can see I am free flowing the facts as there is too much information coming in to sort out tidily. Other chants are: "Death to Bassijis" (easy to hear and understand) A voice says: "an ambulance is coming", another states "killing and more killing", another shouts: "move over, move over", another says: "get up here, come up here", another complains: "don't hit, don't hit!" The "death to " chants repeat. Now some of the shifting underfoot ground which indicates there will be a regime change - not completely perhaps, unless the current plan gets out of hand. Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei (pronounced kha-men-ey-ee not anything like Khomeini, Kho-mey-nee - wrong person) was a beggar at Mashhad (North-East Iran city) cemeteries begging for alms from those accompanying coffins being taken for burial. The Imam Reza (Saint of miracles) Shrine gave him monthly "care packages" to help him feed himself and his wife at the location on the "wrong side of the tracks" in the poorest part of the city. Still without two coins to rub together, he jumped on Khomeini's revolution bandwagon and because of his cousin Mir Hossein Moussavi (the current Green movement), who became Khomeini's Prime Minister, he found a favored place until Moussavi began to oppose Khamenei's ambitions. Bad blood came about and when Khamenei, still a low grade cleric, conspired with Khomeini's current Grave Keeper Ansari, and the sick Ayatollah Khomeini's son Ahmad Khomeini, while Ayatollah Khomeini was in a coma in hospital, to prevent Ayatollah Montazeri, previously chosen to succeed the dying ayatollah from attaining that position. And for Khamenei to take up that position. Moussavi, still Prime Minister opposed Khamenei, who after having Ahmad Khomeini suffocated at the hospital to have no witnesses, was given the Supreme Leader position based on second hand edict reputedly from the perhaps already dead or dying Khomeini (visitors forbidden) promptly eradicated the Prime Minister position and became sole 'head of state". To be given this post, already illegally despite Khomeini purported edict, he had to be not just an ayatollah (which he was not) but a Grand Ayatollah, as is Shia Ali Sistani of Iraq and as was Ayatollah Sadr of Iran, a firm critic of Khomeini before he disappeared strangely in Libya.
Note: Ali Sistani's personal representative Shahrestani is in Qom representing the Grand Ayatollah who has been approached to consider issuing a fatwa To be named a grand ayatollah, requires two other ayatollahs to proclaim you their spiritual mentor and guide. Hard to swallow for other senior clerics who knew his lowly status but two ayatollahs, Mesbah Yazdi ( who was considered a loony by Khomeini and told not to promote his Hojatieh 12th Imam philosophy, to which Ahmadi-Nejad is a fervent acolyte) and an Iraqi national, exiled inside Iran, Mahmoud Shahroudi (currently Chief Executive of the Judicial System - like Minister of Justice). Another Khamenei supporter at the time was Akbar Hashem-Rafsanjani, who at his peak was a middle level Hojat-ol-Eslam and now a self-proclaimed ayatollah. He became islamic iran's President and for personal gain (buying arms, oil revenues etc.,) prolonged the war with Iraq long after Iraq had asked for a truce and the Arab world had offered $400 million in reparations. None of which would go into Rafsanjani's personal pocket so he refused. .....Cut to today! Rafsanjani has budgeted some $100 million to keep the revolution going, not to change the regime completely but to remove Khamenei - preferably to hang him as a murderer but mostly to remove the Khomeini created "Velayate Faghih (Rule by religious jurisprudence), under which a Supreme Ruler functions and gains validity. Rafsanjani has been a busy bee and has acquired the written votes of 40 senior clerics aimed at removing the position of Supreme Leader and replacing with a five (5) member ruling Junta, not necessarily of clerics. As head of two major councils (Experts and also Guardians) Rafsanjani, not eligible by lowly clerical status to be a Supreme Ruler under Velayate Faghih sees himself as becoming the head honcho. Mousavi would certainly be one of the five members of the Ruling Council/Junta. Khamenei suddenly found himself in danger and allied himself with former Revolutionary Guard commander Ahmadi-Nejad, who has filled every government position during the past few years with former Revolutionary Guard officers. From the very top positions down to mid-low level posts. Nationwide. Cutting to the chase, believing the former colleagues of his choice for President would prevent/suppress any opposition, he blatantly rigged the election, gave it his holy blessing as a result approved by Allah -- and met the Iranian people! Who disagreed. On Sunday, Khamenei in total disbelief of the strength of the resistance to his plans and aware of his peril moved tanks into the Freedom Square and turned a nearby 100,000 capacity stadium into the anti-revolt operations center and moved there himself with about 12 family and entourage members. He has good reason to try to stay in power, receiving about 10% of isalmic iran's oil revenues as his "income". He has populated the area selectively with ruthless crack riot police, who will kill on his command and the worst of the worst Bassijis. From there he can make a quick getaway to a relatively close-by international airport and has a a bullet proof SUV standing by, engine running and reportedly an aircraft fueled with a crew on board on standby status. Engines will be running by the time he gets there. How far he and his family get depends on Rafsanjani, already a powerful antagonist but even more so if his junta gets approved. He appears to be planning to have Khamenei arrested and tried after being "decertified" as Supreme Ruler for his lack of clerical eligibility and killing of demonstrators. Here we come to the Revolutionary Guard (Passdar) and Bassiji difference. The paramilitary Revolutionary Guard came about under Khomeini's orders to replace the regular military forces he did not trust and though the structure remained till the present, they have been disarmed over the past year or two and are no longer a fighting force. The regular Army is now a sad step-sister and not a fighting force and the officer loyalty by no means points to the regime. Recently the Passdar has become increasingly disenchanted with Ahamdi-Nejad in particular and the regime in general as they see how bad the economy has become. Remember, they are not highly paid and have family and relatives who also suffer the horrible economy, already staggeringly high prices of goods which sometimes double overnight for dairy products, rice and eggs, on which much of the average Iranian lives. A tomato omelet, long a poor person's staple food is now out of reach with the current prices of tomatoes and eggs. To get votes, Ahmadi-Nejad travelled throughout the provinces buying support by giving away small gold coins and SACKS OF POTATOES to a hungry populace. Yes, potatoes they could not buy. Now on to the Bassiji. They originally consisted of the most naive, uneducated and gullible youths from the remotest villages, who would believe anything Khomeini decreed and trust he was the messenger of Allah and spoke for Allah. The knew nothing of the outside world and would kill if ordered to do so, though their main task was more as gophers with some military training. Gradually as the need to control the populace grew their number grew to about a million, scattered all over the country at some minimal rate of pay. Then last year, with discontent rising and the elections on the horizon a MILLION new conscripts were "hired", trained in crowd control and they were introduced into the "street control hit squads", who found which of them were likely to be tough on their fellow countrymen. The backbone of the Bassiji were mercenaries from surrounding Arab countries, from North African countries with jihadists like Algeria, Sudan and some Eastern European tough Moslems from Albania. The twist here is that the rigged election plot and the brutal crowd control and killings are not actually being run by Khamenei Sr., who has colon cancer and should have been dead by now, bu this middle son Mojtaba. He personally controls the mercenary contingents of the Bassiji and very recently imported 5,000 new Hezbollah/Hamas/Palestinian thugs. They are required to have body-builder, heavily muscled physique and be tall to easily intimidate the usually thin, sleight Iranian students who flock into the streets. Those are the main street thugs, generally refered to as the plain clothes agents (lebass shakhsi-ha). But there are some 10,000 mercenary riot hit men with shooting skills. They are the Bassiji shooters and are not required to be heavily built. as you may have seen some of them are snipers who shoot to kill protesters, or bystanders like Neda. They shoot selectively, aiming at the heart and head at targets they think will dishearten, shock or drive fear into others. Our reports put the recent shooting into crowds death toll at 37 for Tuesday bringing the recent total nationwide to over 500! Not the relatively few being reported. In fact reports reaching us from hospitals say that bodies of the dead and wounded are being quickly collected by regime operatives to hide this reality. Also the wounded are arrested and disappear. They are tortured to obtain the names of their friends or fellow resistance movement students, then taken out into the desert and left to die of their wounds or have graver wounds inflicted to make sure they die - eventually - miserably. Control of the Internet you have all heard about is not a gentle, electronic one. One student group which for five years had an internet site up and sharing information with other students nationwide suddenly had their webmaster/editor, a girl, snatched from in front of her house by bassiji agents, tortured and gang raped and her body thrown down in front of her parent's house as a warning. The group lost their safe house and had to move to another. Unfortunately five of their members were captured and under torture, one of who knew the password for their Internet gave it up, so the site was hacked and closed down. All five students were shot and their bodies dumped in the desert Again the safe house had to be abandoned and it's only a few days that the site is back up again. So with the above in mind, it's a matter of plans of mice and men (Rafsanjani et al) running into the wishes of the students and populace that has stood up to them. Mousavi's call for a general strike - now regardless of his being arrested - has not taken root because the regime has threatened any bazaar business that if they went on strike their permits to operate would be permanently cancelled. Former "reformist" president Mohammad Khatami urged the Mousavi demonstrators to simply flood the bazaar with their presence, blocking access to all others and thus putting the bazaar out of business without imposing the strike responsibility on the merchants. Meanwhile in the Kurdish city of Sanandaj there actually was a complete strike and all shops were shuttered. Reports indicate other cities will follow suit on Wednesday and on following days. Now watch the video below and hear the Death to the Islamic Republic for yourselves and realzie the populacw wants to get rid of the regime, while the Rafsanjani and Mousavi want to replace the current structure with another where they are in charge. Albeit with a less fanatical or retrictive theocratic flavor. And, by the way they will hand Ahmadi-Nejad alongside Khamenei for murdering innocent Iranians. Pot calling the kettle black but any port in a storm. A Passdar military coup was possible until half of the commanders aligned themselves with the demonstrators.

The exiled son of the late shah of Iran, Reza Pahlavi, warned Monday of dire consequences for the volatile Middle East and the rest of the world if the popular uprising in Iran is crushed.
The defeat of the movement protesting the outcome of presidential elections 10 days ago would not only threaten global stability but could lead to nuclear war, Pahlavi told a news conference here.
"Their defeat will encourage extremism from the shores of the Levant to the energy jugular of the world," said Pahlavi, who left Iran a year before the ouster of his father, shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, in the 1979 Islamic revolution.
"At worst, fanatical tyrants who know that the future is against them may end their present course on their terms: a nuclear holocaust," Pahlavi told a room packed with reporters at the National Press Club in Washington.
Pahlavi urged Western media to continue to act as "the information artery connecting different parts of the freedom movement in Iran" by globally spreading the messages coming from the protesters inside the country.
The Iranian government has severely clamped down on foreign media coverage of the protests in Iran, which Pahlavi said were happening around the country and involve all walks of life from factory workers to academics.
Skirting the news blackout, Iranians have been sending messages and videos to news outlets or acquaintances outside the country using social networking sites, online video and photo outlets and micro-blogging source, Twitter.

Nearly 3000 Iranians of various beliefs gathered by the White House (Sunday 2009/Jun/21) at 4pm.
The demonstration voiced support for the pro-Freedom movement in Iran. More than half of the crowd consisted of young Iranians who were chanting: “United Nations pay more attention” and “Democracy for Iran”. The rally lasting for 3 hours was highlighted by H.M. Kourosh Reza Pahlavi appearing along with his wife and daughters to voice unity with the plight of Iranians. He addressed the crowd holding a loud speaker while Yasmine Pahlavi held on to a picture of Neda (the teenager who was shot by Islamist militia).
H.M.* Kourosh R. Pahlavi emphasized that despite of difference in opinions, "Freedom" (Azadi) should be the core message in our slogans and demands.
* ALAN NOTE: many royalists already refer to Prince Reza Pahlavi as His Majesty, as the catalyst/ umbrella leader of the new Iran, though he does not insist on a Monarchy unless the people decide that's what they want. In his address to the rally, he expressly listed numerous mind sets and ideologies including Communists, Mojaheddin, Islamic republicans, who oppose a monarchy but said they are all Iranians and have their place in a free Iran social and political structure.

The University dormitories in Tehran & Shiraz were raided on Monday 15th 2009. Seven students were killed in Tehran & two in Shiraz.
