Alan note: If we could merge Sarah Palin with Newt Gingrich we would have a perfect person to restore America into a viable country again.
Sarah Palin has the name recognition, common sense and enough experience in running a State as governor and courage needed to bring this ship of State around into he right direction.
Newt has the kind of experience dealing with D.C., Senate and Congress she will accumulate but he can provide a BRAINY shortcut.
The snag is he too intellectual to play second fiddle to anyone (no reflection on Sarah's abilities) and she may not want to lose the opportunity to swamp Obama, using her own advantages, if she has to carry and compensate for his negatives - added to what she is facing already from a hostile press.
If they could work it out they would have the most effective team ever to lead our country and restore our prosperity and national security.
Given an "either or" I would go with Sarah Palin - she has enough of what Newt brings to the table but he does not have enough to beat Obama's Chicago machine and negative press attacks.

SOME HIGHLIGHTS
21st CENTURY CONTRACT WITH AMERICA
PART 1: LEGISLATIVE PROPOSALS
1. Repeal Obamacare and pass a replacement that saves lives and money by empowering patients and doctors, not bureaucrats and politicians.
2. Return to robust job creation with a bold set of tax cuts and regulatory reforms that will free American entrepreneurs to invest and hire, as well as by reforming the Federal Reserve and creating a training requirement for extended federal unemployment benefits to encourage work and improve the quality of our workforce.
Alan note: the Federal reserve appears to have mishandled TRILLIONS of Dollars posssibly to a criminal level of abuse and beyond the scope of their authority!
3. Unleash America’s full energy production potential in oil, natural gas, coal, biofuels, wind, nuclear oil shale and more, creating jobs, stimulating a sustainable manufacturing boom, lowering gasoline and other energy prices, increasing government revenues, and bolstering national security.
4. Save Medicare and Social Security by giving Americans more choices and tools to live longer, healthier lives with greater financial independence.
5. Balance the federal budget by freeing job-creators to grow the economy, reforming entitlements, and implementing productivity improvement systems such as Lean Six Sigma to eliminate waste and fraud. Pass a balanced budget amendment to keep it balanced.
6. Control the border by January 1, 2014 and establish English as the official language of government; reform the legal visa system, and make it much easier to deport criminals and gang members while making it easier for law abiding visitors to come to the US.
7. Revitalize our national security system to meet 21st century threats by restructuring and adequately funding our security agencies to function within a grand strategy for victory over those who seek to kill us or limit American power.
8. Maximize the speed and impact of medical breakthroughs by removing unnecessaryobstacles that block new treatments from reaching patients and emphasizing research spending towards urgent national priorities, like brain science with its impact on Alzheimer’s, autism, Parkinson’s, mental health and other conditions knowledge of the brain will help solve.
9. Restore the proper role of the judicial branch by using the clearly delineated powers available to the president and Congress to correct, limit, or replace judges who violate the Constitution.
10. Enforce the Tenth Amendment by starting an orderly transfer of power and responsibility from the federal government back “to the states, respectively, or to the people,” as the Constitution requires. Over the next year, state and local officials and citizens will be asked to identify the areas which can be transferred back home.
21st Century Contract with America will be much larger than the original, and will consist of four parts.
1. A set of legislative proposals to shift America back to job creation, prosperity, freedom, and safety.
2. A “First Day” project of Executive Orders to be signed on inauguration day to
immediately transform the way the executive branch works.
3. A training program for the transition teams and the appointees who will lead the shift back to Constitutional, limited government.
4. A system of citizen involvement to help us sustain grassroots support for change and help implement the change through 2021.

Well now...I could vote for this...in a heartbeat! I'm ready to forgive Newts' past and his private life...I think he above the rest understands the seriousness of the tipping point this nations is at. He's constantly making reference that this election is not to be fun and games and he will not play it as that.
Seems to me time to get adults back in the Whitehouse and one who loves his country. Perry will sell us to the highest bidder globally, he's in it for Texas deals he couldn't get otherwise.....Romney will be his usual traitor self....Cain's got to be involved in Washington now but not ready to actually lead....Bachmans lost her momentum entirely and PAlins still on the fence.
I'd vote Newt....and pray hard he'll set the course for our nations recovery fast and hard...and he could do that as no other....there is no learning curve in this next Presidency...no time for it, it has to be action when the boots hit the ground and running!
SALIENT COMMENT 2 (hat tip - cizinec - FreeRepublic.com)
I agree with the conventional wisdom that Marco Rubio is far and away the ideal choice for vice president. He brings the Hispanic vote (even though he is Cuban and not Mexican) and he delivers Florida.
The Republican cannot win without Florida just as Obama cannot win without Pennsylvania.
Rubio would be able to hold up very well in the vice presidential debates probably on a level with Gingrich and in any event the vice presidential debates are mainly held to see if one or the other makes a major gaffe which will hurt the ticket but they do very little to help the ticket.
The problem with Gingrich in a secondary role in the administration is much the same as having Churchill in a subordinate role in the British Cabinet, he might be uncontainable. Although he tended to mind his manners when he was subordinate to Bob Michael in the house, it is not clear to me that Gingrich at this stage in his life would be willing to subordinate his ego to another man's conceptions of policy. (Please pardon the participle disagreement)
For some time I shared your opinion that Gingrich knew he could not win the nomination but this race for the nomination has turned into such a scramble that I actually believe Gingrich is becoming more and more the rational alternative. Much depends on whether the party sees that the Republic is really and truly in desperate trouble as I believe it is. Keep your eye on China, that is the 3rd leg of the world's 3 legged economic stool and it looks like it might just be falling away. If it does, things will get very grim indeed and the party just might turn to Newt.

Ideas are just ideas unless you can implement them -- and Gingrich CAN IMPLEMENT THEM. Romney is not a Conservative. Cain's plan is deeply flawed by adding a National Sales Tax to already existing income tax. His rate of 9%, EVEN BY CAIN'S OWN ADMISSION will probably not hold, but will be increased to 13%, 15% and eventually to something like 20%. It is a disastrous idea. Cain won't make it all the way. He certainly will not be nominated. Perry will drop out by year's end, because all he has to run on is his Texas experience and that is very, very mixed, especially with his slick politician's image and the awful baggage of the in-state-tuition-for-illegal-aliens debacle. Ron Paul is insane and Bachman is an idiot. Both will be forgotten by the time of the convention. That leaves only Romney and Gingrich. In a debate, who will win? Are you kidding me? Romney has NOTHING to say. He is a waffling imitation conservative. The country is CONSERVATIVE to the core, especially the great waking Middle America. Gingrich may well become the next Republican President and he will carry with him vast majorities in both houses of Congress and in a huge uprising, will also bring with him Republican/Conservative majorities in state and local governments, as well. Gingrich himself has said to vote with him, not for him. Support his ideas, not the person. It will change American politics for good, because ours is a nation formulated not on people, but on ideas. We are a government of laws and not of men/people. Sarah Palin agrees with this concept, as she has said many times before. If she wants to do something really fine, she should endorse Newt Gingrich as soon as possible. Her own name recognition would add a dimension to Gingrich's campaign like none other.
