CHINESE SUB INCIDENT

Comments on the Chinese SONG class Submarine (as above) which surfaced in the middle of our carrier group.

Our ASW (anti-submarine warfare) capabilities have in fact been diminished (retiring the Spruance class ASW DDGS and the S-3 Viking ASW aircraft) when we should have kept those assets.

However, with the helos (helicopters) off the Burkes (DDGs), the Ticos (CGs), and off the carriers itself, and with one or two ADCAP LA Class SSNs with every carrier group, we are still the best in the world at ASW.

Sources tell me that this Song PLAN sub was tagged and forced to surface before it was a serious threat...but the ChiComms and our complicit press are making the most out of the story.

No doubt that the PLAN is building up and planning to confront us and that we must be vigilant, on our guard, and continue our own advance and building...but this story is not the tragedy that it is being made out to be.

The Burke class, particularly the Flight IIA vessels are filling in for the Spruances.

There is no replacement for the S-3 Viking.

Contacts did not tell me what was used to get the ChiComm sub to surface, but my guess is that there was some active sonar pinging that let them know we knew exactly where they were for starters.
